Textile Special Interest Group

Purpose

The DENHAC Textile Special Interest Group (SIG) is responsible for maintenance and good working order of the textile area of DENHAC. This group will focus on the upkeep of the tools and consumables, budget, training, planning events, and planning future expenditures of the textile area. The group will respond to requests from DENHAC members for future needs and will send recommendations to the board.

Scope

In Scope

  • Tracking Budget
  • Capital investments/expenditures 
  • Tools and equipment – keeping maintenance schedule/inventory
  • Maintaining the documentation on the wiki
  • Maintaining Consumables – Thread, Stabilizer, Etc
  • Fabric and Supply storage area
  • Training / Trainers – List
  • General cleaning/care
  • Reporting any continuing issues to the board (unsafe members, tools, concerns, etc) 
  • Textiles area Layout
  • Classes to support learning in the space beyond just training

Out of Scope

  • Active Project Storage
  • Personal machines stored in the area which are not on loan to denhac

Roles

At least two co-chairs will lead the SIG. Disagreements will be elevated to the board. 

Trainers are responsible for training on equipment and in some cases maintenance. Trainers are also responsible for training other trainers

Maintainers are responsible for maintenance of equipment and for training additional maintainers.

Organizational Management

Meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM unless otherwise specified by the co-chairs

  • A textiles-SIG slack will be used to communicate among SIG members
  • Membership will be all trainers, maintainers, and other volunteers

Budget

The SIG has $6000 budget for 2026. This is used to on supplies and maintenance: fabric for training purposes, embroidery stabilizer, thread (sewing, serger, embroidery, cones, etc.), cutting tools, measuring tools, marking utensils, needles, oil for machines, supplies for the tufting gun, supplies for the vinyl machines, etc.
