Textile SIG Meeting – August
Welcome & Space Guidelines (5 minutes)
- Quick round of intros
- Space etiquette reminders
- Keep bins off the table – it takes up a lot of shared space
- Use only the area you need, since many people work at the same time
- If ironing, keep supplies contained near the iron and your original spot, then return there when done
- Keep walkways clear – put bins back as soon as you’ve grabbed what you need
- If you are going to be away for more than 15 minutes, please stash your items back in your bins or condense down to ¼ of the table
- Please keep the projector area clear as often as possible

- Project Table
- Hackdenhac Day is the primary push for this (see below)
- Researching caster wheel options
- Moving items to metal cabinets to clear space under the table, so it can become modular
- Digital Patterns for All of Denhac
- Daniel will be coming to explain the new process; Eric first suggested the idea
- Hackdenhac Day Planning (15 minutes)
- Embroidery area: what’s needed to make it more functional? How to handle hoops once the desk is replaced; how to handle stabilizer storage
- Leatherworking: move the station once the new table arrives
- Computer/desk area: move desk upstairs; replace with a smaller desk; mount TV/monitor on the wood with an armed mount offering multiple positions; add a keyboard drawer for keyboard + mouse
- Under-table storage: categorize each bin and consolidate where possible – post questions in #tablemoveproject if unsure
- Follow up with Karly and Michael on overall table plans
- Clean out metal drawers and vacuum sawdust; consider repurposing removed items (maybe the yard area?)
- Shopping List

- Process Improvements
- Member-Posted Events
- Goal: let members post their own events with minimal roadblocks
- Need to decide how descriptions are handled – Slack channel vs. doc
- Build a description template from past classes; simple make-and-take template members can adapt
- Train the Trainer
- New process: shadow a class, then teach it while being shadowed
- Trainees expected to read the training doc first
- Trainers currently needed for: Embroidery, Serger, Industrial
- Open Discussion (20 minutes or remaining time)
- Cricut: revisit conversation; decide whether we’re buying sheets for the Cricut Joy or selling the machine; how much to invest in member-use materials (special paper, colors)
- Stabilizer and interfacing: rolls come in a variety of thicknesses, and once the outer wrapping is removed there’s no way to tell which thickness it was, need a way to mark/track thickness once unwrapped
- Space rules enforcement: how do we hold people accountable when they’re not online to see posted expectations? Need a documentation/follow-up process
