Required Training
Training is required before operating the CNC machine.
Overview
denhac is borrowing a Nomad 3, “a fully integrated, ready-to-run desktop CNC mill that’s at home in any environment.”
Training + authorization is required to use this machine.
Specs
From the manufacturer’s page:
- Cutting Area: 8″(X) x 8″(Y) x 3″(Z)
- Spindle RPM: 9000 – 24000 RPM
- Spindle Collet: ER-11, 7mm max cutter diameter
Materials
- No food!
- NOTE: NO FERROUS METALS [steel, etc.] IN THE NOMAD 3!
- Woods: All types
- Plastics: “most plastics”. Ex/ ABS, Acrylic, Polycarbonate, Delrin, HDPE, PEEK, PVC
- Metals: Aluminum, Brass, Copper
General Process
- Get Training + Authorization before using the machine
- CAD > CAM > Cut > Clean
CAD + CAM
- Carbide Create is installed on the left-most machine in the CNC room.
- You are free to use your own software at home.
Cut
- Carbide Motion is installed on the right-most machine and is currently what controls the Nomad 3.
Cut
- Select + install work holding options (located in the drawers on the far right)
- Install the 1st end mill + collet that your job needs
- Put the fan back on!!! (commonly forgotten step! yes it is required!)
- Set the starting position once the end-mill has been installed
- Make sure the fan is installed on the head !
- Run your job.
- Stay aware and near the machine while it is running.
- Clean Up!
- Note: Do NOT mix metal chips w/ wood chips in the shop vac.
- Assume there are wood chips. If you are cutting metal, dump the shop vac, vacuum your metal remnants, and dump the shop vac again.

Please be sure the file you come with is a valid “.nc” file that can be loaded w/ Carbide Motion.

Training + authorization is required to use the Nomad 3.
