denhac has three WoodRiver bench planes. The low-angle block plane is great for work on smaller pieces, cleaning up machine marks, and other such light work. The #4 bench plane is also called a smoothing plane, and is useful for dimensioning lumber and smoothing surfaces. The #6 fore plane, sometimes called a jack, is useful for dimensioning longer pieces of lumber and removing large amounts of stock.
Training
The hand planes require training before members are allowed to work with them. The goal of training is to familiarize members with the safe and appropriate usage of the planes, including setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Blade sharpening is covered in a separate training

Maintenance
Maintenance of the hand planes is only to be carried out by trained maintainers. If you are interested in becoming a maintainer, post in the #sig-woodworking channel in slack.
The planes have been setup so they are ready to cut, so most often the only maintenance that will be needed is regular sharpening of the blades. A light oil should be regularly applied to the sole of the plane to help lubricate the metal and allow the plane to glide over your material.
