AI & Computer Science Club

Wiki

EST. in 2024, The AI-Compsci club meets in the classroom on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 6-8pm to discuss the latest in AI & computing, collaborate on data science related projects, and determine how we can provide AI services to the membership. Connect with the club on slack in the #ai-compsci-club channel.

The club maintains a set of hardware to both provide typical AI services, and to allow members to do data science related projects on. This hardware should only be modified or handled with permission from AI-Compsci-Club Administrators. Members are encouraged to ask in the #ai-compsci-club channel on slack if they’d like a VM for their project, and they should include what their use case is, the timeline with which they will be needing these resources, and exactly what resources they’ll be needing (RAM/CPUs/GPU(s)/Disk space). These VMs are intended for users to do neural network training, and must comply with the following terms of use:

  1. No torrenting (upload or download)
  2. No crypto mining
  3. No brute forcing
  4. No LLMs.
  5. No image editing (generation is fine)
  6. No ‘unguarded’/’unlocked’ models (models that have had their safety guard rails removed in some way)

Here is a list of the hardware we manage at the space:

AI-Club-Main (Deployed) [10.11.0.3]

This is a blade server deployed in the network room upstairs. It has ~512gb of DDR4 RAM, an Nvidia Tesla k80 GPU, 2x 12 core intel processors, 3.2Tb of NVMe drive space, and ~50Tb of spinning disk drive space (although I believe the RAID setup is catastrophically flawed and needs investigation)

AI-Club-01 (Deployed) [10.11.0.4]

This is an old mining rig that has dual power supplies, a GTX 1080, an RTX 2080, ~64gb of DDR4 RAM, and something like a 1Tb disk. As of this writing it is on a shelf in the network closet in the classroom, upper left if you’re standing in the doorway.

AI-Club-02 (Not in use)

This is a blade server deployed that is currently mounted to the wall of the network closet in the classroom. This server has some impressive specs but has not yet been deployed due to a bios lock prohibiting proxmox installation.

AI-Club-03 (Deployed) [10.11.0.5]

This is a very large, and very heavy, PC tower that contains an intel i9, (watercooled) RTX 3090, a few Tb of NVMe disk space, and 64gb of DDR4 RAM. This machine didn’t want to connect to the proxmox cluster for some reason so it is currently a standalone machine running proxmox. It is currently sitting on the floor of the network closet in the classroom.

AI-Club-04 (Not in use)

This is a thinkstation tower server with ~128gb of RAM, 2x Nvidia A5000 GPUs (96gb of VRAM in total), some intel CPU, and it came with like almost 50Tb of disk drives. It is currently sitting on the floor of the network closet in the classroom.

AI-Club-MAC-01 (Not in use, at least not by the club)

This is a mac mini. No idea what the specs are currently. It’s currently in the fishbowl on the workstation closest to member storage, under a gigantic curved Samsung monitor. It has been getting used for video production projects.
