This training will authorize you to use denhac’s precision hand tools, namely the three hand planes, the chisel set, and the gents saw. All other hand tools do not require training authorization unless otherwise stated. This training is mandatory for all denhac members before you’re allowed to use the tools. Register for this training and complete your homework before the class by reading the woodshop wiki page and the tool wiki pages. This class takes 3–4 hours depending on the number of attendees and experience. You are strongly encouraged to take the sharpening authorization class prior to this class. IMPORTANT: participants in the class must supply their own material, ideally a S2S piece of hardwood (think cherry or soft maple—nothing overly hard) no smaller than 4”x8”x1”. The class will utilize the following tools:
- #4/#5 and#6/#7 bench planes
- Block plane
- Chisels (between 1/4” and 1”)
- Marking gauge (or combination square and marking knife)
- Gents saw
