Event Type

Want to save an ugly chair from the landfill? Turn it into a custom piece with reupholstery! Sable will guide and assist you through the entire process from tear-down to patterning to sewing and stapling over the course of 4 weeks.

Participant requirements:

  • Significant time commitment! This will be a series of 8 hour classes over 4 consecutive Sundays. There will also be weeknight office hours for you to make progress between class days.
  • Bring a lunch or be prepared to go buy lunch nearby on class days.
  • Bring your own armchair and an appropriate amount of new fabric. Reach out to Sable on slack if you need fabric provided or need assistance choosing fabric or determining the yardage needed for your project. Here is a fabric yardage calculator.
  • We do not have a space to store project chairs at Denhac so you will need to take it to and from class.
  • An up-to-date tetanus shot is recommended. This vaccine is good for 10 years.

If you are not already authorized on the industrial sewing machines, let Sable know so they can coordinate with a trainer to get you authorized before class starts. You will need to be authorized by 3/15.

Schedule overview:
3/8 Label & tear down chairs, begin patterning new material
3/15 Continue patterning, start sewing and attaching fabric to chairs
3/22 Continue attaching fabric
3/29 Pattern & sew cushions, finishing touches

This schedule is subject to adjustments based on how quickly or slowly we get through each step.
Weeknight office hours will be scheduled at each class based on participant availability.

Please only sign up if you attended week 1.
