This week at denhac! Nov 4 – Nov 10

Hello fellow hackers!

Sorry for the lack of info last week! Let’s get right into the good stuff…

Monday, November 4th: {}

Tuesday, November 5th, 8 p.m.: Open House! Come work on a project, meet some fellow hackers, or just come see what we’re all about! We love to meet new people and someone’s always happy to give a tour!

Tuesday, November 5th, 8 p.m.: Radio Heads! “Radio Heads” is a group created to explore different aspects of software defined radio. Topics to be addressed include both the reception and transmission of RF signals, the processing of data captured from the ether, cell phone networks, and ham radio. This is a group, not a class. There is no instructor. Just a handful of similarly minded people trying to learn something at roughly the same time. If you have a pet project you think might apply to this group feel free to propose it.

Wednesday, November 6th: {}

Thursday, November 7th, 9 a.m.: Work From Denhac Day! This is the day for all of you who work from home to get a little human interaction. Come hang out with the other work-from-home-ers at the coolest place in Denver.

Friday, November 8th, 7 p.m.: Game Night! Join us this Friday for Game Night! Anything goes so bring whatever you’ve got; new or classic, popular or obscure, or even home made! Join us, won’t you?

Saturday, November 9th, 12 p.m.: Open House Part Deux! This is like the Tuesday night Open House only better because it’s on Saturday! This is a casual, unstructured event where anything can happen. Come say hi!

Sunday, November 10th: Kids’ Science Dojo! Kids Science Dojo at Denhac is a weekly science class designed for elementary through high school-aged kids. Students will be learning science topics through cooperative projects, lectures, and safe experiments. Attendees under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by a designated guardian.

To help make a good class for both kids and their guardians as well as determining a good day and time for the class, our wonderful member and host Ashleigh has set up a couple of surveys. I encourage everyone who is considering the class at least read the description at the top of the Parents survey to give you information about Ashleigh and the class.

Sunday, November 10th: Kids Coder Dojo! The Kids Coder Dojo at Denhac is a weekly computer programming class designed for elementary through high school-aged kids. Students will begin by using a free and open source visual programming language called Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/, available on Windows, MacOSX and Linux), and will be able to move on to more advanced languages as they progress at their own pace.

Attendees under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by a designated guardian (though guardians are encouraged to attend for all ages). Attendees should bring a laptop or netbook for each student they bring if they can (and you are encouraged to bring extras if possible for those without access to a computer).

Denhac is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of technology, art, DIY, and craft-related classes for all ages, and survives on donations and membership dues.  As with (almost) all Denhac classes, attendance is free of charge and membership is not required. Donations are strongly encouraged.
