Saturday, August 17, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Laser cutter operation, safety, and global domination. One of our members, Matt, will be demonstrating how to safely use the laser cutter he has so generously loaned to us and is now sitting upstairs. This is going to be similar to the crash course he did about a month ago when the laser cutter first arrived at Denhac with a little more time for Q&A and/or demonstration. The videos of the crash course can be found here. RSVP on Meet up.
Saturday, August 17, 3 p.m. to 4:30: Soldering, skill level n00b to intermediate. Another class from our fantastic member Matt! Please bring something to solder, preferably through-hole. Matt suggests the Evil Mad Science Diavolino kit (A barebones clone of the Arduino Duemilanove, $15 at MicroCenter). At the very least bring something that will work afterwards to make sure your solder made a good connection, etc. Radio Shack has some cheap soldering projects geared towards younger geeks that would work for this class. Personally, I’ve done two of them and they’re great but their usefulness after completion is low. RSVP on Meet Up.
Sunday, August 18, 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m: Kids Coder Dojo. The Kids Coder Dojo at Denhac is a weekly computer programming class designed for elementary through high school-aged kids. Students will begin by using a free and open source visual programming language called Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/, available on Windows, MacOSX and Linux), and will be able to move on to more advanced languages as they progress at their own pace.
Attendees under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by a designated guardian (though guardians are encouraged to attend for all ages). Attendees should bring a laptop or netbook for each student they bring if they can (and you are encouraged to bring extras if possible for those without access to a computer). RSVP on Meet Up.
Denhac is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of technology, art, DIY, and craft-related classes for all ages, and survives on donations and membership dues. As with (almost) all Denhac classes, attendance is free of charge and membership is not required. Donations are strongly encouraged.
Come check us out! We’d love to meet you!!
