Fasten your seat belts and get ready for another jam-packed week! We have got seriously cool stuff going on every day.
Monday, March 11, 8 p.m. in the classroom: Usenet Theater presents…Antitrust.
“A computer programmer’s dream job at a hot Portland-based firm turns nightmarish when he discovers his boss has a secret and ruthless means of dispatching anti-trust problems.”
Usenet Theater: where the movie is free and the floors aren’t sticky (we hope). Popcorn and soft drinks provided! RSVP on Meet Up.
Tuesday, March 12, 8 p.m: LOCKSPORT! Seriously. If you haven’t been to Locksport yet, you really need to come in for it. Legion is so full of win! By the way, we have lots of practice locks and some practice picks to use so no equipment is necessary. Just bring yourself and your patience. RSVP on Meet Up.
Tuesday, March 12, 8 p.m: Weekly Open House. RSVP on Meet Up.
Wednesday, March 13, 7 p.m, in the classroom: ALL NEW! Sprite Night! CiGDA is starting an all new series of monthly lessons on spriting. Here’s the description from their Meet Up event (please be sure to RSVP):
“There has been quite a bit of interest in a night dedicated to learning the ancient art of spriting. So here it is!
The “class” will be loosely taught by Jesse (creator of Wyv and Keep and SmashBox) and will feature the basic presentation of a topic relating to spriting followed by time to work and check out each others’ sprites. We’ll cover topics such as shape and form, shading, anti-aliasing, lighting, key frames, forces of movement, secondary animations, and much more. It will be a casual gathering as with most CiGDA meetings, and will focus on helping each other and learning together in a relaxed, stress-free setting.
Our first meeting will focus on getting acquainted with the spriting process, distinguishing a good sprite from a bad one, and creating a character for a simple platform game.
Novices and pros and everyone in between are welcome! Can’t wait to see you all!”
Thursday, March 14, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m: Work from Denhac Day. HAPPY PI DAY! RSVP on Meet Up.
Friday, March 15, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m: dc303
Saturday, March 16, noon – 5 p.m: Open House. ALL NEW! Have you wanted to check out Denhac but couldn’t make a Tuesday night? Well now’s your chance to come by, take a tour, and ask questions on a weekend.
Saturday, March 16, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. in the main room: Repair It! with Needle & Thread. The lovely and talented St. Jude will be in the house teaching us how to make basic sewing repairs to well-loved garments and other fabric stitched items (bags, pillows, coats, cushions, etc – NO LEATHER as leather repair is a specialized skill). Stuff like buttons, hems (both re-stitching and shortening), seam stitching that has come loose (think split pants seam as an example), basic hand sewing techniques in general and possibly zippers. She’ll bring supplies and a very basic machine to use if needed, though the focus will largely be on hand stitch repairs.
Participants should bring an item you’d like to repair, a basic sewing kit: sewing needle, sharp scissors, thread to match (or are willing to use) on the item you want to repair, and a button to replace if you have it. If you have a sewing machine you would like to learn how to use, bring it along and Judy will help you with that too! RSVP on Meet Up.
Saturday, March 16, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the classroom: I Got a Raspberry Pi…Now What? We are totally jazzed to have Lordspeed teach this introductory course on how to get started with a Raspberry Pi. The class requires a raspberry pi, sd card, and micro usb charger. We will have a limited number of kits to sell so, if you need to purchase one from our supply (around $60 for the pi, the charger, and the card), please be sure to RSVP on Meet Up and indicate that you will be purchasing from our supply in the comments.
As an added bonus, Jane will be baking raspberry pies to celebrate Pi (+.02) Day for your tummy pleasure.
Saturday, March 16, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m: All Member Monthly Meeting. Due to the grossly exaggerated snowstorm on 3/9, we re-scheduled our monthly meeting to 3/16 to give our members a chance to mix, mingle, snack, and talk business.
Unless otherwise noted, all classes and events are free and open to the public. Come check us out! We’d love to meet you!
